Call for participants for Up’Cycl’Art training course in France

UPDATE: COURSE COMPLETE!!

Biodiversa is offering 2 places for Spanish residents to participate in the fully funded Training Course Up’Cycl’Art, organised by our partners Solafrika. The training is taking place from 20th to 31st of August in the French Pyrenees. It is a training for youth workers or youth leaders, or for young people willing to learn about the topic.

Aim: Solafrika created this training course because they observed that most people are far away from nature and have lost the basic connection with it. They also observed that on our planet there is more and more rubbish thrown in nature and polluting our environment. Most of the participants they are hosting on their projects are from big cities and therefore can’t apply the learnings from Solafrika’s countryside ecology (which is what their previous training courses were about). That’s why their latest training is about recycling and practical ecology applied to the city.

Methods: Participatory methods. Participants will be active and engaged in all daily life chores. Non-formal education tools will be used during the workshops. All participants should be ready to develop a critical mind, their analytical sense and to share their opinions with the others.

Venue: The training will take place in a rustic old farm belonging to our partner organisation SOLAFRIKA in the countryside, in a village called Bédeille (Ariège, France). The place is comfortable enough for everyone, but don’t expect a 5 stars hotel!

Programme:

The main activities will be:

  • Raising awareness about our consumption habits and the recycling process through non-formal learning;
  • Introduction to Up-cycling, with workshops;
  • Meeting some actors from the cities ecological movement in Toulouse (Zero waste, incredible edible, shared garden, etc… )
  • Workshops about small eco-building (outdoor living room with tyres, pallets, etc…)
  • A workshop with local children where the youth leader will lead the workshops.

Participants requirements:

  • Spanish resident;

  • Over 18 years of age by 20th August 2018;

  • Able to communicate fluently in English language (the whole course will be in English);

  • Available to participate in the whole duration of the training course.

There will be 2 Spanish participants, and a total of 26 participants coming from Spain, Macedonia, Germany, Greece, Estonia, Slovenia and France.

Financial conditions and travel costs:

The training course will be implemented in the frame of the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Commission. The accommodation, food, tuition and materials will be covered fully by the grant, so they will be free for you. Insurance is obligatory and should be arranged and covered by each participant (just make sure you have a valid European Health Insurance card: Tarjeta Sanitaria Europea).

Your travel expenses will be covered up to 275 EUR. Travel costs will be reimbursed to all participants after submitting necessary travel documents (original tickets/invoices + boarding passes) and after filling in the form in the Mobility tool (you will receive precise instructions about this after your return).

If you are selected, you will be required to contribute to Biodiversa with 20 EUR towards the management costs of your participation. This will be your only real cost.

How to apply: Send a short (no more than 300 words) motivation email to asociacionbiodiversa@gmail.com with the subject line “NAME SURNAME Application to UpCyclArt”, introducing yourself (who you are, what you do…), explaining why you are interested in participating in this training course, what you expect to gain from taking part in it and why you should be selected. Include also your personal data: name, age, city or village of residence and contact telephone number.

Deadline to apply: Open until completion of the selection process.

Some more info: This project is organised by the French non-profit organisation SOLAFRIKA, in partnership with Biodiversa, Equipo Madragora (Spain), Metta (Slovenia), IBG (Germany), Alter Ego (Greece), Continuous Action (Estonia), thanks to the support of the European “Erasmus +: Youth” programme.

Training Course Green Urban Cycles – Call for Spanish participants

GUCDates: May 10–18, 2015

Place: Liepāja, Latvia

ABOUT THE IDEA of the training course

This course is aimed at 24 youth leaders, workers, community volunteers and activists, free thinkers and social entrepreneurs who are inspired to make their own communities back home more liveable, green and enjoyable place for everyone.

During the training course, participants will discover practical tools on creating sustainable cycles of daily activities on personal and organisational level,thus fostering implementation of sustainability principles in their personal and professional reality.

Participants will come from the following countries: Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Latvia, Portugal, Romania and Spain.

Young people across the globe are creating urban spaces where creativity, environmental and social action join together to inspire the local habitants, encourage municipalities and empower businesses to adapt greener practices. There are so many inspiring project ideas to tackle the environmental issues urban areas face, such as: creating urban gardens for growing food, leaving wilderness areas and creating spaces for interaction between humans and nature.

During 7 days we will discover possibilities to reduce urban footprint and bring new initiatives to our own communities. We will explore effective ways to make a change in the city using various activism tools, ranging from urban gardening to armchair activism using social media. The training will provide also opportunity to network for further activities and actively experience the preparation and running of cycling-cultural festival BoltikBaik.

The activity will be based on non-formal education principles and enable participants to share knowledge, acquire competences and hands-on skills on active urban green living, tackling not only overall knowledge of green living, but also democratic competences of reclaiming spaces in cities and engaging in legal forms of activism in order to promote green values and initiatives in the cities.

Short info about Boltik Baik 2015

This will be the third year when NGO Radi Vidi Pats in cooperation with Latvian NGOs, artists and activists will organize the freak-bike workshop/festival Boltik Baik.

In previous years it had a great visibility and impact on participants and local community processes, and after two years pause we decided to do it one more time.

This time Boltik Baik will focus more on educational aspects of sustainable mobility, promoting social inclusion and active participation under Do-It-Yourself and Learning-by-Doing principles.

The main activity of the project will take place in May, 11-17 in the harbour of Liepāja where, with the help of one of the most experienced freak-bike constructor in Europe – Gatis Kreicbergs-, and volunteers from Radi Vidi Pats, a freak-bike workshop for 20 young local people will be organised.

TRAVEL MEANS

It would be great if you can come to the training course venue by choosing the most environmentally friendly means of transport posssible. If you choose to come by plane, please consider offseting your CO2 travel emmissions. You can do so, for example, in the following website: https://www.atmosfair.de/en/home/

COSTS and REIMBURSEMENT

Shared accomodation in a hotel will be provided, as well as food based on a vegetarian diet (local, seasonal products), including eggs, and milk products; meat is optional (2 times per TC upon request).

You will be reimbursed up to a maximum of 360 EUR for conveniently justified travel costs. 65% of the eligible travel costs will be reimbursed by bank transfer 1 month after the TC the latest. The other 35% will be transferred after the sucessful submission of the final report to the National Agency by the project organisers (approximately in July 2015).

ON-SITE TRANSPORTATION

It is very possible that every participant will have a bike, so knowing how to ride a bicycle is required and we might ask you to bring a lock for the bike you will be using.

WEATHER
It could be rainy, windy and quite cold in May in Liepāja, so consider to bring water-and-windproof clothes with you.

CONDITIONS TO APPLY FOR PARTICIPATION

– Be over 18 years old at the time of the training course;

– Be a Spanish resident;

– Be fluent in English;

– Know how to ride a bicycle;

– Have interest in the topic of the TC and willingness to apply what you’ve learned once you get back to your community;

– Be a member of Biodiversa (if you already are a member, you will have more chances to be selected. If you are not a member and you still get selected, you will be requested to become a member before attending the training course). Membership costs 15 EUR per natural year.
